Tell Him He is a Muslim - Poem

You tell him he is a Muslim,
But not what it means.
You tell him to pray to Allah,
But not to know what he is saying.
You tell him to read the Qur’an,
But not to learn its meaning.
You tell him to follow The Path,
But not give him the sight to see it.

Loneliness - Poem

Sometimes, I feel so alone.

The shadow of an emotion once felt

Falls through the empty chasms of my heart.

The warmth long gone,

It hits the bottom with a resonating clatter.

let me be frank with you,

buzz-cut
Mao-quoting
tattoo-bearing
gender and women studies major,
waving your flag of female liberation
up in my face –

no,
Man (with a  capital “M”)
has not colonized my mind.

no
i am not beaten,
abused,
or subjugated
by my heinous male relatives.
